Functional Constipation and Natural Remedies

There are basically two basic types of constipation...organic and functional. Organic constipation is the result of some obstruction, distortion, or some other physical change in your colon. This type of constipation needs to result in immediate attention from a medical doctor, and not a constipation remedy.

We will cover functional constipation here. This type of constipation is usually the result of not following a proper diet, not drinking enough fluids, not striving for good emotional health, and not having a good overall lifestyle. This should be a lifestyle that promotes good passage of foods through the intestines and colon.

There are many definitions for constipation, but it is simply a condition where the fecal matter that travels through your colon remains in the colon for long periods before finally leaving the body.

Constipation is a symptom and should not be mistaken for a disease. It is a condition that lets your body know your colon is not working properly, or that you have an underlying gastrointestinal disease that you are not aware of.

Constipation oftentimes is a warning that your diet and lifestyle are creating an imbalance in your body. It is a symptom that is often either ignored or tried to be eliminated by using unnatural and dangerous laxatives from the drugstore.

Drugstore laxatives should always be avoided when constipation exists. They are habit-forming for some people, can damage your colon, and have harsh side effects if used for too long. They also sometimes have the tendency of worsening the problem you are trying relieve, which is constipation itself.

To keep your body in proper chemical balance, it is very important to use only natural remedies for constipation and colon blockage. Natural remedies like certain herbs and foods bring into the colon nutrients that can build up the health and strength of the colon, reactivating the natural peristaltic colonic action.

As you use natural constipation remedies, keep in mind that any one particular remedy may not work for you in particular. You may have to try different remedies, or maybe increase the dosage of the one you are already using. If you supply your body what it needs by using a good remedy for your body, then you will get positive results from using that remedy.

Experimentation is part of finding out what natural colon remedy is best for you. Fortunately there are many different natural remedies for constipation and colonic health from which to choose from.

Remember that most remedies should be used only for a short time, two to four days and not longer than 2 weeks. However, there are some herbal remedies that can be used, and are even recommended to be used for longer durations. These combinations can improve the health of your colon and get your bowels moving healthy once again.

If you suffer from constipation, the natural balance and function of your colon has obviously been affected. Fortunately, natural remedies help bring your colon back into a healthy balance.
